Who’s Paying Britney?

Posted by bmac on November 13, 2007

I don’t like to talk about Britney here, but this is interesting to me. Brit brings in $737,000 a month, and apparently has earned over 100 million dollars in her career, and has saved nothing. The fact that she’s saved nothing is expected, but how she’s earning that much is a mystery to me.

Her albums aren’t really monster hits, and even if they were, she doesn’t write her own music, therefore no publishing money. I can’t imagine she has a brilliantly negotiated record deal, and even monster recording artists make very little on physical CD sales. She did a movie that tanked horribly, and hasn’t really performed or toured in years. I just don’t get where almost a million dollars a month could possibly be coming from. Endorsements of some kind?  Do the tabloids pay her? I’m clueless…..

Hmm – that is a bit of a head scratcher. I think her earlier albums & tours had bigger sales than what you think, but lately? Merchandizing? Endorsement contracts? Hey there ya go – a lot of big name American stars go to Japan and shoot a bunch of commercials for big bucks that you never see here. I saw some Ahnuld Schwartzenegger commercials for an energy drink that was just nuts.

Tha Japanese thing is a possibility. I just can’t get my head around how she’s generating that kind of dough, without a product.
Her new record is out, but she’ll be lucky if it sells 1 million, which does not generate anywhere near that kind of money for her.
